Lorely Burt MP Visit

Lorely Burt Warwick University

Society Members pose with Lorely Burt MP!

Date: 4th December, 2008

Time: 6:30pm - 7:30 pm

Shadow business minister and Lib Dem parliamentary party chair Lorely Burt came to Warwick for a Q&A session. Burt overturned a majority of over 9,000 votes at the last election to become the first non-Conservative MP for Solihull, leading Charles Kennedy to describe her triumph as the “jewel in the crown” of the Lib Dem electoral performance. Burt is the first female chair of the parliamentary party, and also president of Women Liberal Democrats. She has a background in small business, and is a one-time assistant prison governor.

Questions on the state of the economy and Lib Dem plans to tackle it will took a lead in the session, but she was equally keen to discuss women’s rights, and other issues close to her heart.

Nick Clegg Dinner

Nick Clegg Lorely Burt Warwick Liberal Democrats

Party leader Nick Clegg meets the Exec.

Date: 20th November 2008

Time: Evening

Members of the society met Nick Clegg in Solihull for the constituency’s annual dinner. Not only did they get to listen to Nick speak; they met Lorely Burt (MP for Solihull) as well! Nick spoke about issues such as the economy, pointing to his frontbench team as the most able of the main parties to deal with the economic situation. He also spoke about another issue close to his heart, fuel prices.

The evening was a fantastic experience and the society are grateful to Solihull Lib Dems for the
invitation.
